Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say two people were injured when an attempt was being made to push a disabled pickup off US 51 near Ferrydale Road north of Sandoval Monday night.
Sheriff’s Deputies say the disabled vehicle was broadside across the road when it was struck by a northbound pickup driven by 27-year-old Samantha Atkins of East Boone in Salem. The Atkins vehicle then crashed into a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road.
Atkins along with the person steering the disabled pickup, 67-year-old Mary Farnsworth of Bond Avenue in Patoka, were both transported to the hospital for apparent minor injuries. Farnsworth was also the owner of the vehicle parked on the shoulder of the highway that was struck.
Three people who were pushing the vehicle, Joshua Milligan of Cherry Street in Centralia, Johnny Baker of St. Clair Street in Vandalia, and a 16-year-old juvenile from Centralia were not struck or injured.
The crash occurred at 7:16 Monday night. Both the Sandoval and Patoka Fire Departments and ambulances were called to the scene as well as Lifestar Ambulance. Air Evac was launched but was canceled before coming to the scene.
