Move-over day is Saturday across the country and in Illinois.  Illinois State Police are pleading with the public to obey the law.

Illinois State Trooper Josh Korando says the law has been in effect for more than two decades now, but some drivers still aren’t getting the message.

He asks everyone to remember that they are risking the lives of first responders, people with a flat time or broken down car, and themselves when they whiz by.

“Don’t think about it as a vehicle.  Think about that as if it was your son or daughter, brother or sister, would you blow the doors off that car at 70 to 80 miles per hour?  No, you would take a little time and make sure that person was safe.”

Under the Move Over, or ‘Scott’s’ law. motorists are required to slow down and switch lanes if possible when approaching a vehicle with flashing lights or hazards blinking on the side of the highway.
