A ten-year-old Kell Grade School student was airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment of injuries after he was accidentally struck by a vehicle driven by the school’s superintendent.
Superintendent SarahBeth Williams told Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies she didn’t see the child. When she knew she hit something, she looked in the mirror and saw she had hit the male student.
A witness told the sheriff’s department that the child was crouched down while riding a skateboard on Johnson Street in front of the parking lot and would not have been visible to the driver.
Emergency officials say it appeared the boy sustained head injuries and a broken leg.
The Kell Fire Department and United Medical Response assisted in getting the boy to the Air Evac helicopter that landed on the school’s ball field.
No damage was found on the car.
The incident occurred at 5:28 Thursday night.
