More than a dozen fire trucks were brought to the Pennington Chevrolet Parking Lot on West Main Street in Salem Monday for the 2022 Sentinel Power Tour.
The display gave fire departments around the region to see what is new in technology not only in fire trucks but emergency equipment.
Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day works for Sentinel and says fire trucks are evolving with fire departments being called to many different kinds of emergency cases.
“The trucks have gotten bigger. We have to carry more equipment on a single truck. When I started in the fire service, all our air packs were carried inside compartments. Now they are carried in the cab so when you get on the scene you are dressed and ready to go. We have accidents, tornadoes, anything, and our truck has to be prepared to do that so we need more room in our trucks to do that.”
The Power Tour featured more than a dozen fire trucks and the display of fire trucks from four local departments that have recently purchased trucks made by Rosenbauer Apparatus that are sold by Sentinel Emergency Solutions which is based in St. Louis.
