Jairen Stroud advanced to the IHSA Class 2a State Golf Tournament after finishing the Waterloo Sectional in a tie for 1st place shooting an even par 72.  A sudden death playoff between Stroud and a pair of Benton Rangers was won by River Staley with a birdie as Stroud and Kash Cantrell both pared.  Logan Lockhart finished 71st overall with a 90 and Cale Harris finished 79th with a 92.

Benton advanced as Sectional champion shooting 296 with Mattoon and Glenwood also moving on with 315 and 316 respectively.  Not advancing as a team as Althoff 4th, Olney 5th, Mater Dei was 11.

In the 1a girls Sectional hosted by the Salem Country Club, Mt Carmel was the team champion and advanced along with Massac County and Columbia.  Salem finished 5th as a team with Breese Central 9th.  Mt Carmel’s Madelyn Young was medalist shooting a 74 with Salem’s Makinzie Mann in a playoff for the final spots to advance and she made it and will continue her season at state with an 86 along with Addison Laramore of Althoff and Brynn Stiegman of Nashville.  Centralia’s Chananya Domethong tied for 1st with a 74 and will compete at state.

Also for Salem yesterday, Alyssa Paul shot 90, Taylor Ice 91, Jaryn Haarmann 102, Kylie Johnson 120 and Kiley Vieira 122.

In 1a boys Sectionals hosted by Effingham St Anthony, Vandalia’s Conner McCall was the medalist shooting  73 and advances as an individual along with Christ Our Rock’s Parker Boehne who was 2nd with a 77 along with Nashville’s Parker Renken.  Altamont’s Avery Jahraus also moved on shooting an 82.  Advancing as a team was St Anthony, Litchfield and Marquette.
