The Marion County Health Department has recorded another COVID-19 related death.   In her weekly report, Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow said a male in his 80s who was not a long term care resident, was not vaccinated and was hospitalized with COVID at the time of his death passed away.   Marion County has now had 218 COVID-19 related deaths.

Mallow reported six congregate care facilities are in outbreak status.  One facility has 37 positives, another 22, and a third 11.  The other facilities had two, five, and nine positive cases.

On the positive side, all counties in South Central Illinois have fallen to the low category for community transmission.

Marion County recorded 42 new cases for the week ending Thursday, a 12.5-percent decrease from the prior week.  There were four new hospitalizations.

Clinton County had 47 new cases, an 11-percent decline.  There were two new hospitalizations.

Jefferson County had 32 new cases, a 35-percent decline.  There were three new hospitalizations.

Washington County reported 13 new cases, an 86-percent increase from the prior week.   There was one new hospitalization.

Fayette County had 20 new cases, a 47-percent decline and one new hospitalization.

Clay County reported 19 new cases and no new hospitalizations.

Wayne County had 13 new cases, down 32-percent, and one new hospitalization.

Statewide, there were 10,945 new confirmed and probable cases and 64 deaths since September 23rd.   The number of new cases is at its lowest level since April 8th.   No counties are at the high transmission level for the first time since the middle of May.  20 counties remain at the medium transmission level.

The number of hospitalizations is also dropping, to under 1,000.  As of Thursday night, 899 are in the hospital with COVID-19.  130 of those are in the ICU and 31 are on ventilators.
