A fire that started from repairs being made to a car destroyed the garage and attached home at 211 North Broadway in Central City Monday afternoon.

Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera says one of the home owners, Ryan Blair, was working on a car in the garage when a fuel line caught fire and set off a quickly spreading fire.   Blair was able to escape without injury.

Boshera says upon arrival the fire had spread from the garage into the living room and a back room of the home as well as into the attic.  The head start of the blaze and a strong northwest wind worked against firemen in trying to save some of the single story home.

The Centralia City Fire Department and Sandoval Firemen were called to the scene for mutual aid while the Salem Fire Protection District was called to cover the Centralia Fire Protection District in the event of another fire.

The fire call came in at 1:07 Monday afternoon with firemen on the scene until five Monday evening.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family of three left homeless by the fire.

Boshera reports there were no injuries in fighting the fire.
