2023 09/09 – Richard ‘Rick’ Mulvaney

Richard ‘Rick’ Mulvaney, 74, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, formerly of Salem, Illinois, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023.

He was born February 14, 1949, in Salem, the son of Jerold William Mulvaney and Freda Hope (Parrish) Splechter.

Rick is survived by his two children: Melissa Matson and husband Justin of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Kevin Tarkington and wife Kim of Little Rock, Arkansas; 9 grandchildren: Rissa Butt, Makayla Butt, Dathan Butt, Mirabella Matson, Tricia Norman, Cassidy Tarkington, Jacob Tarkington, Reagan Mulvaney, Mason Mulvaney; 4 great-grandchildren; Carson Moore, Noah Potts, Hailey and Harper Norman Grand Rapids; 3 brothers: Jerry Mulvaney and wife Joyce of Centralia, Bill Mulvaney and wife Carrie of Urbana, and Mike Pannell of Alma; 1 brother-in-law: Derold Doughty; nieces: Marlo, Charity, Shelley, Stephanie, Julia, and Gillian; and nephews; Shine, Basil, Jeremy, Lincoln, Joe, and Aaron.He was preceded in death by his parents: Jerold Mulvaney and Freda Splechter, son: James ‘Jamie’ Mulvaney, and sister: Judy Doughty.

Rick was a kind, fun, and loving dad, PawPaw, uncle, brother, son, and friend. He loved life, fishing, golfing, riding motorcycles, drinking beer, and talking to people. He never met a stranger and he could never resist a good opportunity to dance on the dance floor. He was a Vietnam veteran and a loyal member of the American Legion, Moose Club, and a Shriner. Rick will be missed and remembered for the many lives he touched. We will always love and miss you until we can meet again.

Per the family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home at 310 North Broadway/ P.O.
