Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon has identified the man found dead in the Salem Reservoir Sunday morning as 26-year-old Quienton Jolliff of Salem.
Cannon says a preliminary investigation indicates that Jolliff had been fishing from the bank and had apparently lost consciousness subsequent to drug usage and fell or rolled from the embankment into the water.
Salem Police Chief Kyle Ambuehl says Jolliff’s body was first discovered around nine am by a fisherman near the south entrance of the nature trail close to the shore.
Cannon says Jolliff’s body was secured and removed from the water by himself and members of the Salem Fire Protection District.
Cannon reports no foul play is suspected, but an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to definitely rule that out and to positively determine the cause of death.
The Coroner’s office, Salem Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois Department of Natural Resources all responded to the scene and/or assisted with the initial investigation.
