Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested two Salem men on multiple drug charges following a brief pursuit on the 1700 block of East Main Street on the far east side of Salem late Friday afternoon.

34-year-old Ryan McCarty of South Marshall was arrested for driving on a revoked/suspended license, aggravated fleeing police, possession of methamphetamine, possession of adult-use cannabis in a vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A passenger, 30-year-old Jeremy Lippert of South Franklin, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a narcotic instrument.

Sheriff’s Department reports McCarty initially sped up during an attempted traffic stop, but then pulled over and stopped in the back of a parking lot.  As deputies approached, the two men were allegedly seen walking into a cornfield where they reportedly dropped some items.  The Marion County K9 later assisted in finding some drug items.

Both were taken to the Marion County Jail where they remain pending a final decision on charges.
