The Marion County Treasurer has made the first distribution of property tax money collected this year.
A total of $23,653,846 has been sent out to the taxing districts in the county. More than half the money, $13.1-million dollars went to the schools. Marion County government received $2.8-million. Cities and tax increment financing districts $2.7-million. Kaskaskia College received $1.6-million. Fire Districts have been sent $1.2-million. Township Road and Bridge Districts received just over a million dollars.
Other districts receiving money include $771,000 going to townships, $291,000 to the Centralia Public Library, $146,000 to Salem Township Hospital, $44,000 to the Salem Airport, $42,000 to multi-township assessors, and $2,782 to the Odin Cemetery.
Treasurer Gary Purcell is reminding taxpayers the second installment of the real estate taxes is due September 27th. Payments may be made at the Marion County Courthouse in the treasurer’s office, most financial institutions, by mail, online at ILmarion.com or at the drop box located on the West side of the courthouse.
