Those who travel between Salem and Centralia on the Selmaville Road will have to find a new route beginning Tuesday, September 6th.

That’s when the Illinois Department of Transportation plans to shut down the road to all traffic at the Crooked Creek Bridge 3.25 miles south of Salem for repairs to the structure.    The road is expected to reopen in early November 2022.

There will be no marked detour and motorists will have to find an alternate route during the closure period.

IDOT officials say drivers are urged to pay close attention to construction signage and watch for changing conditions, obey the posted speed limits and refrain from using mobile devices.

The contractor on the project is Depew and Owen Builders, Inc. of Centralia.

Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick is concerned about the lack of detour that could lead some heavy truck traffic onto township roads that are not designed to handle the weight.
