There’s no longer a flight competition at Centralia Balloon Fest, but the pilots still take the time each year to honor one of their own. The annual High Fly Cup is presented each year to a pilot who is selected by peers as exhibiting the spirit of ballooning. The balloonists added Frank Anger to that honored list on Sunday morning. Anger says he felt humbled to receive the award.

“Totally unexpected and one of those Wow moments.  To be standing up there with those past winners was really an honor for me.”

Anger flies the “America” balloon, and says he has enjoyed coming to the Centralia Balloon Fest for years.

“It’s one of those I put on my calendar early because everyone is so hospitable and nice to us.  I look forward to coming back.”

Three pilots were honored for their longevity at the Centralia Balloon Fest. Betsy Kleis, Tom Klitz, and Larry Owen have each participated in 20 fests. In addition to honoring the pilots, three Steering Committee members were recognized for their years of service to the festival. Patty Williams was thanked for 25 years on the committee, while Burke Davies and Susie Robbins were each thanked for 20 years of service.
