Retiring Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds was honored at a large retirement party Friday night at the Salem Country Club.
Mayor Nic Farley told the crowd he could not have been a good mayor without Reynolds’ leadership.
“The City of Salem, the residents, the city council we have a plaque for you. It says ‘In recognition with grateful appreciation for your 27 years of loyal and dedicated service to the City of Salem your expertise and leadership have served the City of Salem very well. On behalf of the city council, city staff, and the citizens of Salem we wish you the best in your retirement.” I can tell you you are leaving very big shoes to fill when you leave. I mean this wholeheartedly, I have the most upmost respect for you and the leadership you have given the city.”
Deputy Chief Susan Miller on behalf of the officers of the department presented Reynolds a wood-carved badge complete with his ID number.
“The officers of the police department want to take a few moments to thank you for your service to the department. We appreciate you and thank you for your service to the department. You led us through police reform, Covid, through thick and thin we were family. We just want to thank you for your service here.”
Reynolds in turn thanked those who allowed him to be successful.
“The department as a whole is a tremendous department. Any success that I brought to the city is not just the result of anything I’ve done, it has been the result of things a lot of people have done especially my officers, dispatcher, code enforcement, and my administrative assistant. Anything that has caused me to do anything great is a direct result of them because without them I am nothing.”
Reynolds noted he had disagreements with the city council, but he was always proud they could sit down and work it out.

The members of the Salem Police Department surprised retired Chief Reynolds with a wood carving of his badge.
