Odin’s new Acting Mayor was sworn into office Thursday night.
16-year board member Jim Smith will fill the Mayor’s position until after the April 2023 municipal election when he will return to his board seat that will remain open.
Smith says his goals include park improvements, culvert replacements to improve drainage, and a renewed effort to attract a Dollar General Store to Odin.
Dave Daniels officially resigned effective July 31st. He said it has been an honor to serve as a public servant in the past 20-plus years. Daniels also thanked everyone for their support and deeply appreciates all the valuable experiences he gained. Daniels said he feels good about the accomplishments and knows the village is in better financial shape since being elected.
The meeting was also the first for the village’s new attorney Brian Merrill who agreed to work with Police Chief Joe Nix on demolition procedures against the owners of five substandard homes.
The Odin Board voted to have a fall cleanup, but a date has not been selected. They will contact Odin Township to see if they want to participate.
The board was told a mother circuit board has gone out resulting in the Odin tornado warning siren not working. The company that checked all the sirens recently feels the siren can be repaired, but they are currently having trouble getting parts. The board was informed Odin and other communities had signed agreements in 1997 to be responsible for any repairs needed on their siren.
The board purchased a new 2022 Spartan Industrial Mower from A and B of Centralia for $11,500.
