Marion County is back up to the ‘high community level’ for COVID-19 as a result of 109 new or probable COVID cases being reported in the week ending Thursday along with seven new hospitalizations. Cases were up nine percent from the prior week.
At the high level, the CDC recommends wearing a well-fitting mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status, and consider other actions to reduce the potential for exposure.
Clinton County has dropped to the low level while the rest of South Central Illinois is in the medium level. All area counties had an increase in cases from the prior week.
Clinton County reported 83 new cases, a 43-percent increase, and two new hospital admissions.
Jefferson County saw a 55-percent increase in cases to 110 with four new hospitalizations.
Washington County had a 69-percent increase to 22 new cases and three new hospitalizations.
Fayette County had the largest increase at 114 percent, with 109 new cases and two new hospitalizations.
Clay County reported 37 percent more cases with 52 and one new hospitalization.
Wayne County had 61 new cases, an 11-percent increase, with two hospitalizations.
Statewide, there were 33,066 new cases of coronavirus along with 59 new deaths. One of those was in Marion County. 50 the 102 counties in Illinois are now at the high community level.
As of Thursday night, 1,424 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those 152 were in ICU and 42 were on ventilators.
