The 2nd annual Summer Market in downtown Centralia is expanding after a large crowd attended the inaugural event last year.

It is scheduled from ten to two this Saturday in the 100 and 200 blocks of East Broadway and 100 block of South Locust Street.

The event is being organized by the City of Centralia.  Mimi Hawkins is the co-chair.

“I have 40 vendors for arts and crafts and 15 food vendors along with five vendors who are staying set up at the Farmer’s Market because it is just a half-block away so that way they don’t have to set up again down on the street.”

Hawkins says a number of special activities are planned as well including a chance to meet Centralia High School athletes.

“Kylie Gorman and JehChys Brown are both state champions.  They will be there from 10:30 to 11.  The CHS football team is at 11:30 and the cheerleaders at noon.  It is just a little meet and greets just so people can meet our local high school all-stars.  It will be located in front of city hall.”

Hawkins says Hank Jourdan will be playing acoustic rock, gospel and country from ten to noon.   Two free inflatables will be available for the kids.  The Frozen and Pirate Ship will be set up in the Centralia City Hall parking lot.   Hawkins says they are asking that parents don’t let their kids come unattended.   There will also be a Ghost Busters and late model race car available for photos.

The event was started last year to provide a venue for family fun and activities.
