There will soon be public access internet at the Marion County Courthouse.
Marion County Circuit Clerk Tiffany Schicker announced at Tuesday night’s county board meeting that she has received a grant to provide the service.
“Public wifi application I sent off just a couple of days I received an email and I have been approved for the full amount of the public wifi and the telephone in my office. That comes out to roughly $18,000 for the equipment.”
Schicker will now be working with the county’s tech consultant on getting the equipment installed to provide the free internet. She thanked the county board for their support of the application.
In other action, the board hired WIPFLI Auditing to be the county’s new auditing firm after its old auditor resigned due to lack of personnel to complete the audit. The firms Josh Favors told the board they currently do 17 other counties and adding the circuit clerk auditing would not be a problem. Favors also feels
he can get the audit back on track and reports filed in a timely nature. The auditing cost will be much higher than in the past with the total bill totaling more than $50,000 a year.
Supervisor of Assessments Mark Miller reported this is the time for any townships to change alignment of multi township assessing districts. The change can only be made every ten years after Census date is available. Miller is not expecting any changes.
The board approved a bid for $4-million in cyber security internet security at a cost of $16,536 through Dimond Brothers Insurance.
