Obituary information has been released on the two Carlyle sisters who were killed in a car-semi truck head-on crash near Beckemeyer on Friday.
The two are 17-year-old Savanna Grace Broughton and 15-year-old Brooke-Lynn Kay Broughton. They are the daughters of Scott and Amanda Broughton of Carlyle and are both students at Carlyle High School.
Clinton County Coroner Phil Moss earlier identified the third person killed in the car as their aunt, 43-year-old Rhonda Evans of Ackerman, Mississippi.
Clinton County Sheriff Dan Travous earlier released information indicating that the car driven by the 15-year-old who had a learner’s permit for an unknown reason appears to have crossed the centerline and struck the on-coming westbound semi. Evans was identified as the front seat passenger and the 17-year-old as the other passenger in the car. The Ashley man driving the truck received minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Carlyle. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church on Monday from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM on Monday. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Savanna are suggested to the Carlyle High School Class of 2023. Memorials in memory of Brooke-Lynn are suggested to the Carlyle High School Band. Memorials will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
Savanna’s obituary said she was on the homecoming court, served as Student Council president, and was a reporter for the Carlyle High School FFA. She loved lifting up others by writing positive messages, leaving notes of encouragement and praise, and writing cards thanking others for their kind deeds. Savanna also had a passion for mission work and enjoyed serving at homeless and women’s shelters.
Brooke-Lynn’s obituary said she played tenor sax in the Carlyle High School band and was a member of the color guard. She had an artistic touch and loved art and painting.
Both were members of the First Baptist Church in Carlyle where they were members of the Praise and Worship Team.
