The Wamac Board of Alderman has raised water, sewer, and garbage rates.

The board is raising water rates for the first time in eight years after being notified by the City of Centralia of a rate increase to Wamac.  The minimum rate increase will go up $3.15 a month for the minimum 2,000-gallon usage.  The new minimum rate will now be $21.56.   Rates for water usage over the minimum will be raised by three percent.

Wamac is raising sewer rates for the first time since 1994.  The minimum bill will increase $2.50 a month to $8.26.  The rate for each additional 100 gallons will increase by eight cents.

The city’s garbage contractor was granted a $1.50 per customer increase per month due to higher fuel costs and other expenses.  The cost from Sunrise Sanitation is passed on to customers at the same amount the city is charged by the company.

The Wamac Board also agreed to put several lots obtained by the city from home demolitions up for sale.   Bids are being sought for land at 436-436 and a half, and 438 North Wabash, 225 East 17th, 345 and 349 Sanders, 343 West 16th, 1309 Case and 134 South Franklin.  The minimum is $1,000 per lot with the exception of the three lots on North Wabash that have a $2,000 minimum.
