The Deputy Director of External Affairs from the Office of Governor JB Pritzker has visited Centralia to tour the existing 100-year-old water treatment plant and the site of the proposed replacement plant.
Allison Flood met with the City Manager, Mayor, and City Staff.
The visit comes as the city continues to actively seek funding opportunities and grants in order to complete the infrastructure improvements and the construction of a new $23-million Water Treatment Facility.
City Manager Kory Smith notes while there are never any guarantees when seeking competitive grant funding, the city recognizes that pursuing financial assistance is fiscally responsible for the City and its residents.
Smith says the city is committed to eliminating the health and safety concerns caused by having aging infrastructure and will pursue all necessary funding avenues to keep the cost of healthy living affordable for the residents, businesses and communities served.
