The Odin Fire Department’s annual picnic is this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Odin Park.
Fire Chief Greg Smith says there will be plenty to do each night with the carnival adding several new rides.
“We will open up Thursday night again at 6pm, as always arm bands are $25 per night. We give a bike away each night for anyone who buys an arm band. We will have a dj out there Thursday and Friday night and then Saturday night Cody Phillips will be playing again for us this year. Same food. We always have ribeye’s, fish sandwiches, BBQ, hamburgers, bratwurst and that type of stuff.”
Smith says the picnic is capped by the traditional fireworks display at ten Saturday night.
There will also be a car show on Saturday, with registration from ten to one and the awards at three pm. The $20 entry fee includes a free BBQ Dinner. The awards include Best In Show, Chief’s Choice, Top 25, Rod Hardy and Marvin Torbeck awards, the MoPar Award, Best Engine, Best Paint and Kids Choice. For more information on the car show you can call Ken Carpenter at (618) 231-1366.
Smith says all the proceeds will go towards equipping a new brush/utility truck that is scheduled to arrive in November.
“We will have to put some new equipment on it…hoses, nozzles and adaptors, and this will also be more of a utility vehicle. We will be respond all of our EMS calls in it. Cabinetry inside the cab for the EMS equipment and we will be able to mount a basket on top of the rear portion of the truck, something we haven’t been able to do for a long period of time.”
Smith says they still need cooks to bake cakes for the cakewalk. Cake mixes are available at the Odin Fire Station or by calling Odin Village Hall.
