Denny Lee Johnson, 82, of Dix, passed away at 6:20 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023, at his home.
He was born January 20, 1941, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Denzel and Clysta (Voyles) Johnson. After his father passed away when he was 10 years old, he was raised by Jim Terry. Denny looked up to and admired him. On October 21, 2006, he married Donna Hays, and she survives.
Denny attended Dodds Grade School and graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School. He was a member of Landmark Church, in Mt. Vernon, and was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was an avid walker and also enjoyed weightlifting and camping. He loved his grandchildren and always had one on his lap. Denny was a hugger, loved and enjoyed people, and was always smiling and happy. He loved his church family very much and brought joy to all that knew him.
In addition to his wife, Donna Johnson of Dix, he is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Johnson and wife Denise of Doolittle, Missouri, Chris Johnson and wife Sheila of Swansea, Illinois, and Bartley Johnson and wife Melissa of Murray, Kentucky; two step-sons, Chris Creps and wife Mary Susan of Texico, and Terry Phelps of Dix; two step-daughters, Tina Mays of Dix, and Tonya Benjamin and husband Aaron of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Katrina Fields and husband Jacob, Kassandra Evans and husband John, Lindsay Moomey and husband Cody Lee, Caleb Johnson, Canden Johnson, Cayden Johnson, Cory Johnson, and Emily Johnson; great-grandchildren, Laila Mae, Benson, Arlo, Soloman, Finnley Rose, Aidan, Emmet, Thomas, and Henry; and sister, Francis Bravard and husband Ray of Mt. Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Alice Faye Sellers, Maxine Hayse, and Delores Nebur.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Michael Piercy officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the funeral home.
