Centralia City Manager names Captain Jeff Day as Interim Fire Chief

Centralia City Manager Korey Smith has named Centralia Fire Captain Jeff Day as Interim Fire Chief after Fire Chief John Lynch retires next Friday. Smith earlier announced both a local and national search would be conducted for the city’s next fire chief.

The council also approved an increase in the maximum prize for raffles from $100,000 to $250,000 at the request of a non-profit organization in the city.

The council also approved the addition of car washes and mini-storage facilities as special uses in the B-4 Corridor Business District. Another change to allow indoor or outdoor commercial entertainment or recreational facilities including theatres, bowling alleys, swimming pools, billiard parlors, and similar facilities was tabled.

All three of the proposals were earlier approved by the planning commission.

Smith said there was interest in developing a car wash facility on the former IGA property on East McCord and the change would bring the carwash at Circle K across the street into compliance.

The council passed resolutions to have Gonzalez Companies, LLC to perform an annual Raccoon Lake Dam Inspection as well as routine inspections on the North Oak Street Bridge over East Noleman, South Pine Street Bridge over Fulton Branch, and any other structures as requested by the city.

The council will continue the bi-monthly billing and collection for Central City water and sewer customers, but the cost will increase from $1 to $2 per month.
The trash collection service will no longer be billed since Central City is now contracting out that service.

City Clerk Kim Enke announced the yearly lake lease payments have gone out to those on Lake Centralia. The increase this year with be eight and a half percent due to the large rise in the consumer price index.
