Raccoon Grade School Superintendent Misty Johannes has confirmed there were no serious injuries when one of the district’s busses was hit in the rear by a pickup truck on Route 161 just west of the Route 37 interchange.
Salem Fire Protection District Fire Marshall Bill Fulton says the pickup hit hard enough to cause the glass in the back door of the bus to explode into pieces that struck some of the 20 students reported on the bus.
Fulton says it is his understanding the bus was stopped to pick up two children when it was struck by the pickup truck. The two students about to get onto the bus were still far enough away from the bus not to be impacted by the crash.
Johannes indicated students only received some bumps and abrasions and that none were taken to the hospital.
United Medical Response was called to the scene along with Salem Firemen to check out the occupants of the bus.
State Police are handling the crash. It was reported at 7:56 Thursday morning.
