It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tony L. Mifflin, a beloved member of the Centralia, Illinois community. Tony passed away on May 12, 2023, at the age of 59, surrounded by his family and loved ones after a brief battle with cancer.
Born on May 12, 1964, in Ft. Benning Georgia, Tony was a proud resident of Centralia since 1980. He was known for his kind heart, willingness to help those in need, and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends. Tony was a loved partner, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
A skilled mechanic, Tony was an auto enthusiast who spent much of his life working on all things automotive. Tony worked for Ford and various other local auto repair shops until opening his own, which he had operated for over 7 years. Tony was well known for his mechanical expertise and his willingness to help anyone in need. He was also a passionate drag racer and spent endless hours tuning his beloved 1969 Camaro and innumerable weekends competing at tracks around the country, where he could be found motivating his fellow racers.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Dixie (White) Mifflin.
Tony will be deeply missed by his significant other of over 22 years, Sandra Garner, his four children, Jamie Rimel, Morgan Shera and her husband Mac, Taylor Silvas and her husband Martin and Trever Mifflin and girlfriend Kloey Ryan, his three grandchildren, Zaedyn and Johnny Silvas and Lane Rimel, and his sisters Sandra Zurcher and her husband Rodney, and Shelby Frey and her husband Shelton, and his brothers Doug Mifflin and his wife Shelly, and Bobby Mifflin and his wife Trish, and many friends and extended family members.
A celebration of Tony’s life will be held at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be held an hour before the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Six Lemons in Tony’s memory and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, Illinois 62801 (618) 532-3523, which is honored to be of service to the Mifflin family.
