2023 05/16 – Stanley B. Detmer

Stanley B. Detmer, age 88, of Bartelso, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Trenton Village Retirement Center. He was born in Damiansville on May 28, 1934, the son of Joseph and Wilhelmina (Wesselmann) Detmer. He married Cleta Bruggemann on June 16, 1959, and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2005.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Sister Delores Detmer, Joseph (Bernadette) Detmer, Lorene (Henry) Hemker, Evelyn Detmer, Theodore Detmer, Donald Detmer, Rosalie (William) Athmer, Reginald (Patricia) Detmer; In-Law: Paul Bruggemann, Joe Bruggemann, Helen (Alfred) Isaak, and Betty Bruggemann.

He is survived by his children: Larry Detmer and wife Candy of Damiansville, Gary Detmer and wife Debbie of Breese, Bob Detmer of Bartelso, Kathy Bruno and husband Joe of Keyesport, and Carol Koehler and husband Jeff of Beckemeyer; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Huelsmann; and in-laws: Nellie Bruggemann, Gene Bruggemann, Ralph Bruggemann and wife Mary, Rita Detmer, and Julie Detmer.

Stanley was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He loved John Deere Tractors and was the co-founder of the Southern Illinois Green Iron Club. He was a truck driver for over 40 years before retiring. He cherished time with his family, he thought the world of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso with Fr. Jim Buerster officiating. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery in Bartelso.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Nordike Funeral Home in Breese and from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso.

Memorials in memory of Stanley are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at church or at Nordike Funeral Home, 150 North Clinton Street, Breese, IL 62230.
