By Bruce Kropp May 13, 2022 | 9:39 AM

Gayla Lueking, age 61 of Hoffman, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Mrs. Lueking was born in Vandalia, Illinois, on May 21, 1961, a daughter of Kent and Rena (Crain) O’Dell.  She married Jerry Lueking on February 7, 2009, and he survives in Hoffman.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lueking is also survived by her parents, Kent and Rena O’Dell; a son – Tyrel Hassebrock and wife Twyla; a daughter – Rebecca Byrd and husband Caleb; her grandchildren – Alex Mulvaney and wife Jaklynn, Kadence Hassebrock, Gunner Hassebrock, Olivia Brooks, and Evelyn Byrd; a sister – Vicki Thompson and husband Robert; her in-laws – Linda Campbell, and Lori and Doug Marlow; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Gayla was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, but she was also known for her love of gardening and animals.  Her passion for homesteading was evident in the beautiful garden she tended to with such care.  She was always surrounded by the animals she raised, which included goats, pigs, ponies, chickens, cats, dogs, bees, quail, and rabbits. But above all, it was her family that brought her the greatest joy.  She was a kind and nurturing presence in their lives, and she cherished every moment with them.  Her compassion extended beyond her family and pets, as she also took care of the elderly in their homes.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman with Rev. Brett Jones, officiating.  Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hoffman.  Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Lueking may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at the service or through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.  Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.ZierenFuneralHome.com.
