Eliza Winter, age 90 passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on Monday evening, May 1, 2023. She was the daughter of Charles and Dovie Swofford who proceeded her in death.
Beloved wife of 64 years to William Winter who proceeded her in death May 11, 2020. A loving mother of 6 children, a cherished grandmother of 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Survived by children; Patricia Palmen, Sheryl Hartke, Elaine Petersen, Marilyn Loreth, William Winter, and Robert Winter. Grandchildren; Nathan Petersen, Brianna Majnerich, Alexander Petersen, Wm. Christopher Winter, Joshua Winter, Samantha Kroehnke, Megan Goodwin, Caleb Loreth, Connor Loreth, Jack Winter, Harper Winter, Saylor Winter, Brandy Rogers, Robert Ottomeyer, Jason Ottomeyer, Bradley Winter, Kaitlyn Winter. Great Grandchildren; Rory Petersen, Theodore Goodwin, Makenzie Goodwin, Anderson Goodwin, Dakota Lamb, Helios Lamb, Addison Majnerich, Sebastian Majnerich, Lucille Kroehnke, Ally Winter, Liam Winter, and Bradley Jr. Winter. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law; Ralph (Marie) Winter, Carl (Maria) Winter, and Donald Winter. And many nieces/nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind 2 fur grand dogs Max and Gracie who greatly miss her.
Preceding her in death were her dear brother-in-law Bobby Winter and most cherished son-in-law Timothy Loreth. Also proceeded in death were her most precious brothers and sisters and their spouses; Gilbert (Ivy) Swofford, Armealiea (Melvin) Potts, Ethel (Virgil) Carson, Loretta (Wilford) Brown, Aurealiea (Earl) Robert, Verlin (Suzanne) Swofford, and Mary (Clarence) Vohlken; nephews/niece; Eddie Potts, Lloyd Carson, Junie Carson, Michael Carson, Mark Swofford, and Mary Lou Edwards.
Eliza worked as a Cook/Manager for Wyland Elementary. It was important to Eliza to know children were receiving the nutrition to properly learn. She served as Missouri State Food Service Organization Representative for Ritenour School District. She retired after 25 years with Ritenour School District.
Eliza attended Lackland Rd. Baptist Church for over 40 years. She served on the Women’s Guild with the church. She baked cookies for the children’s school program and volunteered to provide domestic services for the elderly, ill, and home-bound members.
Eliza held many interests and talents such as crocheting, cake baking/decorating, canning, candy making, sewing/quilting, ceramic making, and word search puzzles. She served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She always provided assistance with food preparation and serving for banquets provided through Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Volunteered for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts fund-raiser events.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Josh Wolford, officiating. Interment will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. – 12:00 Noon on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Zieren Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Winter are suggested to The Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation or donating to the food pantry.
