2023 05/06 – Garry Plumb

Garry Plumb, age 77 of Iuka, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at The Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.

Garry was born on November 10, 1945, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri the son of James and Ethel Irene (King) Plumb.  He married Shirley Lucas in 1966 and they were married for more than 20 years and later separated.  He married Wilma Jamison on December 21, 1991, in Salem, Illinois and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children, Michael Hicks and wife Mattie of Columbus, Mississippi, Mark Hicks and wife Christine of Spring, TX, David Plumb and wife Merritt of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jeffrey Plumb of Dallas, Texas, Danny Plumb and wife Ronda of Mt. Vernon, Ruthie Chance of Alma, and Brian Hunt and wife Carrie of Lebanon, Illinois; 12 siblings, 23 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, his twin brother, Larry, and two other brothers, Carroll and Ricky.

Garry worked for several years as a conductor on the Missouri- Pacific Railroad.   He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Iuka.  Garry loved wildlife and hunting.  He enjoyed baking yeast rolls, gardening, tractors, and other machinery.  He would often talk and tell stories about his railroading days, but the thing that he loved and enjoyed the most was his children and grandchildren.

He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  Garry was a very patriotic man and loved his country.

Funeral services for Garry Plumb will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Iuka.  Burial will follow at the Elder Cemetery in Kinmundy with military rites by the Salem American Legion.  There will be a visitation at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and will be received at the church or can be sent to Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences can be made at www.CrouseFH.com.
