The Odin Fire Protection District has received a $2,400 Walmart Community Grant.

Fire Chief Greg Smith says it will provide more critical portable equipment.

“Milwaukee battery power tools, a drill, sawz-all, we got 2 light towers that run off of batteries and then all the accessories that go with the drills and stuff like that.”

Smith says they have been quite successful in getting grants.

“We getting new radio’s, new pagers, battery powered tools and extrication tools so we are making some major upgrades last year and this year together so it’s helping out for sure.”

In addition to the Walmart Community Grant, the department received a $250 grant from the Marion County Farm Bureau as well as COVID and small equipment grants both through the State Fire Marshal’s office. Smith credits the department’s grant write Jamie Wilkins for their success.

The Manager of the Salem Walmart Store, Keith Perisho, says Walmart is pleased to help fire departments and community groups with needs. He says applications for assistance are available at the Salem Walmart Store.
