The Salem 12u fell in the semifinals of the GMB Chesterfield Tournament.
The Cats opened tournament play up splitting games on Saturday. They fell to the Olney Raptors 13-3. In the loss, Logan Butts doubled and drove in 2. Kyler King added an RBI. Scout Puricelli had 2 hits and a run, Drake Rector and Silas Lux each singled and scored. King, Jaxon Ward, Trenton Shelton and Damon Jennings all worked on the mound.
Salem then beat the Missouri Gators 9-1. Ward doubled going 2-3 with 3 runs scored. King went 2-2 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Also driving in Salem runs were Rector, Lux and Shelton. Nicholi Mahrenka singled and scored, Logan Butts singled and Puricelli went 3-3 with 2 runs scored. Landon White was the winning pitcher going all 5 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 run with 7 strikeouts.
Salem opened up Sunday with a 12-5 win over the MaxRep Bats-Red. King tripled and doubled while driving in 5 runs. Rector also added a triple as he drove in a run. Salem also got RBI from Ward who went 3-3 with 3 runs scored as well as White, Caleb Squibb and Mahrenka. Butts singled and scored with Shelton scoring. Puricelli went 2-3 with 3 runs scored. Jaxon Ward was the winning pitcher allowing 5 hits and 5 runs.
The tournament finished for Salem in the semifinals with a 6-5 loss to the Rawlings Tigers. The game was tied at 5 in the bottom of the seventh when Rawlings scored to walk-off with the win. For Salem, King and Rector drove home 2 runs each. Mahrenka had 2 hits and scored, Puricelli and Ward singled and scored with Butts and Shelton adding hits.
