Salem Police say an alert neighbor helped solve a burglary on Friday.
21-year-old Robert Gott Junior of North Trenary Street in Salem was taken into custody for residential burglary after later being found hiding under a bed.
Police were first alerted to the burglary at a home in the 200 block of West Warmoth Street during the noon hour when a neighbor called to report seeing a man enter a neighbor’s home and later exit with a TV and bag of clothing.
Police developed Gott as a suspect and received a tip of his whereabouts around 8:30 Friday night. They were allowed to enter the home in the 400 block of East Church where Gott was allegedly found hiding under the bed. He was then taken to the Marion County Jail to await a decision on the filing of formal charges.
Police report the home had not been locked. The stolen items have not been recovered.
