Salem Police arrested 74-year-old Neal Canon of Holly Place in Salem for alleged aggravated battery following questioning about an incident that happened last October.
Police report Canon had allegedly kissed and licked the hand of a woman at the Project Bread Meal Site in the Orchard Shopping Center and then reportedly sucked on one of the woman’s fingers.
Police say the arrest came after Canon was questioned at the Salem Police Station on Thursday and allegedly admitted to his involvement in the incident. They filed the charge as a felony because it occurred in a public place. Canon was taken to the Marion County Jail to await a final decision on formal charges.
Police noted the arrest happened now because they were in the process of clearing up old cases.
Canon has run multiple times for the Salem City Council but has never been elected.
