Greenville woman killed in two-vehicle crash in Greenville

A 23-year-old Greenville woman has died from injuries sustained on Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 127 at US 40 in Greenville in Bond County.

State Police say a preliminary investigation indicates a 16-year-old female from Smithboro was traveling westbound in a pickup truck on US 40 approaching Illinois Route 127 when she failed to yield and attempted to make a left turn onto Route 127 southbound.  In the process, she struck a car driven by the Greenville woman head-on.    She was pronounced dead at the scene.  The woman’s name has not been released by State Police.

The 16-year-old Smithboro juvenile was transported to an area hospital with injuries along with three passengers in the car driven by the Greenville woman.   The passengers are identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Maple of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a 13-year-old female from Alton, and a 17-year-old male from Alton.

Any charges are pending investigation.

The crash occurred at 1:27 Saturday afternoon.
