Hector Perchez, age 40 of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his home after a long-fought battle including Type I Diabetes and renal failure.

He was born in Centralia, Illinois on December 10, 1982, the eldest son of Richard and Donna (Shuler) Perchez who survive in Salem.

Hector is also survived by his children, Colten Perchez and Madison Perchez of Dix, Illinois; his brother, James Trevor Perchez and wife Amber and nephew, Carlos of Iuka; grandmother, Charlotte Lynn Wilkins; his long-time friend and the mother of his children Amber Deadmond and husband Mike of Dix; many dear friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Hector is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clinton and Fern (Brown) Shuler and Frank Perchez III.

Hector will be remembered for his quick wit and intellect. He was an avid Cubs fan, liked nearly all sports and especially golf. He was interested in and studied geography, social studies, guns, world history, political science, and crime. Hector liked word games and was recently able to name and spell all 196 countries from memory within 15 minutes.

Hector previously worked at Continental Tire, Bryan Manor, Kaskaskia Workshop (Salem), Lynwood Manor, and Long John Silvers in Salem. Hector was a Christian and a member of Evergreen Christian Church.

He will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Evergreen Christian Church with Shannon Bopp officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until the time of the service at the church. His remains will be interred at a later date at Martin Cemetery in Alma.
