The Jefferson Fire Protection District is reporting heavy damage in a kitchen fire at a mobile home northeast of Mt. Vernon early Thursday night.
Fire officials say the occupant of the home, Jason Reich, found smoke in the home when returning home, but no flames. No flames were visible when firemen first arrived, but upon entering the kitchen the blaze was discovered.
Firemen were able to confine the fire to the kitchen and the attic area above the kitchen. However, the entire home sustained extensive heat and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries.
Firemen were on the scene for about two hours beginning at six Thursday night. Bluford Firemen stood by at the Jefferson Fire Protection District in the event of another fire.
The mobile home is owned by Mike Bevis.
