An 18-year-old Belleville man had bond set at $50,000 after being charged with two weapons offenses and resisting arrest following an incident in Centralia late Wednesday night.
Demonte Agnew is being held in the Marion County Jail for possession of a firearm without an owner’s ID card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting a peace officer.
Centralia Police say they were first called to the 1200 block of McKee Street where a resident reported a man later identified as Agnew threatened to shoot him.
About an hour later, a man matching the description of the man who pulled the gun was spotted walking in the 700 block of Cormick Street. Police say after a perimeter was established by other officers, a loaded handgun was reportedly found on the ground and Agnew hiding under a vehicle.
Centralia Police are commending Patrolman Travis Ripperda for his work in tracking down Agnew. Central City and Wamac Police also provided assistance.
Agnew told the court he would hire a private attorney. If released on bond, Agnew was ordered to have no contact with the witnesses.
