Illinois Department of Children and Family Services workers will be better equipped to defend themselves under a bill headed to the Governor’s desk.
The legislation is sponsored by Senator Steve McClure of Springfield, allowing DCFS Investigators to carry pepper spray.
“This is to protect DCFS and front line workers. We all know my constituent Deidra Salas was brutally murdered. She was not allowed to carry anything to defend herself at all. Same with Pamela Knights. One was stabbed to death and the other beaten to death.”
Investigators will have to go through a training course with the state police on the proper use of a defensive spray.
The bill must be signed into law by the Governor.
