A fire heavily damaged a mobile home in Alma Wednesday afternoon.

Kinmundy-Alma Assistant Fire Chief Richard Day says the fire was at the Martha Goff home at 714 Hill Street. Goff reported she was heating some grease on the stove, left the kitchen for a short time, and came back to find the grease had caught fire.

When firemen arrived on the scene, flames were showing from the kitchen area at one end of the mobile home. Days says firefighters got a quick knockdown and confined the fire to the kitchen. However, the kitchen was gutted and the rest of the home sustained heavy smoke and heat damage. There were no other buildings nearby.

Goff was able to get out of the home without injury. Her three children were not home at the time. The Red Cross was called to assist the family.

The fire call came in at 2:03 Wednesday afternoon, with firemen on the scene for about an hour and a half.
