David Michael Schlais, age 74 of Odin, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
David was born on February 7, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Marshall and Hazel (Eastman) Schlais.
Survivors include his sister, Kathy Bowling of Salem; brother, Edward Schlais and wife Kelly of South Range, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lowell Schlais, and a brother-in-law, Lonnie C. Bowling.
David served his country in the United State Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked numerous jobs in his life including working as a steel worker, pulp cutter, cab driver, and roofer. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed gardening. He loved to read but especially loved his dog, Wendy.
Funeral services for David Michael Schlais will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the Salem Apostolic Church with Brother Calvin Jean officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem with military rites by the Salem American Legion There will be a visitation at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Tupelo Children’s Mansion and will be received at the Church or Crouse Funeral Home in Salem which is assisting the family with arrangements.
