The vote for the champion burger in the Illinois South burger bracket challenge is underway with the winner to be declared after the voting ends at ten Monday night.

Chuck’s Place in Salem has easily won each of their bracket challenges so far and is now up against Moonshine of Martinsville for 1st place honors for the best burger in Southern Illinois.

It was an exciting day Wednesday at Chuck’s Place during a spirited win against Julian’s of Flora in the semi-finals.     And Chuck and Becky Powell are hoping the Salem area can come through one more time for the big prize.

“It’s just going to be reaching out to our customers,” said Chuck Powell.

“We rely on them for all our votes.  All their support means everything.  It’s really helped us to get where we are in the finals this week.  We’re pretty excited,” Becky added.

“We have made some special shirts that say where to go on the website to vote for us,” Chuck noted.

And the Powells say the attention from the Bracket Challenge is bringing lots of new faces to the restaurant.

“We have been busy, busy.  This has brought so much more business.  We were busy before, but now it is crazy,” said Becky.

“There have been tons and tons of people who have seen the bracket on Facebook and they are now they are coming over to try a burger. That’s what it was all about, win or lose, and we want to win, if we don’t we don’t,  but win or lose, it was to get all these small restaurants’ acknowledgment.” Chuck added.

One man drove from Hillsboro on Wednesday because he said he couldn’t vote for a burger he hadn’t tasted.   Others have come from as far away as Marion and the Metro-East.

The Powell’s say win or lose, they plan to make a trip to Martinsville to try the burgers at Moonshine who they are up against in the championship round.   He says it might even be time for a field trip for his entire crew.

In the meantime, the competition is on and Chuck and Becky are hoping all of their customers and friends will go to the IllinoiSouth Facebook page and vote for Chuck’s before the voting ends at ten Monday night!
