James “Jim” A. Gwaltney, 81, of Walnut Hill, Illinois passed away on January 29, 2023, at SSM-St. Louis University Hospital in ST. Louis, MO.sutherlandfuneralhome.com A sheet metal worker for BEL-O Sales and Service in Belleville, IL, he was of the Catholic faith. An outdoorsman, he loved to deer hunt. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Jim married Connie J. Dell in 1978 in Cahokia, IL and she survives in Walnut Hill, along with his children Sean (Sandy) Gwaltney, Walnut Hill, IL, Scott (Belinda) Dell of Cahokia, IL, Nancee (Jeff) Gotway, Jerseyville, IL, and Tanya (Brooks) Smith, Florissant, MO. His grandchildren Carleigh, Ashleigh, Meaghan, Taylor, Megan, Kelly, Sean II, McKayla, Brandon, Rebecca, Bella, and Josh; great-grandchildren Smith, Shay, Savannah, Penelope, Lyla, Wyatt, Hayleigh, and Peyton. Also left to mourn his passing are siblings, Delores Kelley, Philadelphia, PA, Marcia (Jerry) Gwaltney, St. Peters, MO, and sister-in-law, Fern Gwaltney, Carbondale, IL.
Born November 20, 1941, in East St. Louis, Illinois he was the son of James C. and Anna M. (Quick) Gwaltney who preceded him in death. The family invites friends to join them for a Celebration of Life service scheduled by the family at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Luds Pub-Salem Bowling Alley, 1620 E. Main St. Salem, IL 62881. Military Honors will be accorded by the Salem American Legions Post #128. The burial was private.
