Margaret “Marty” Stowers, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:05 am on March 23, 2023, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon.
She was born March 10, 1941, in Franklin County, Illinois to the late Floyd and Mary Ann (Cockrum) Dethrow. Margaret married Lee Stowers on March 6, 2004, in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
In addition to her beloved husband of nineteen years, Marty is survived by her daughter, Traci Hackman and Rich Rutherford of Kentucky; son, Todd Jordan and wife, Sharon of Missouri; daughter-in-law, Tammy Jordan; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marty was preceded in death by her son, Taggart Jordan; sisters, Leota Bancroft, Geraldine Cathcart, and Betty Dethrow; and brother, Norman Dethrow.
Marty worked as an LPN for many years. She was a foster grandparent at One Hope United and was a member of Opdyke Missionary Baptist Church. Marty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held Friday, March 31, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Calvin Trotter officiating. Inurnment will follow. Memorials may be made in Marty’s honor to ALS Association or Parkinson’s Foundation.
