Centralia Police arrested a 23-year-old city man on Monday on a Jefferson County warrant charging two Class X offenses of predatory criminal sexual assault to a victim under 13.

Adam Prusz made his first appearance in Jefferson County Court at Mt. Vernon on Tuesday where the warrant with bond set at $200,000 was unsealed. He had the public defender appointed to represent him and a preliminary hearing set for April 26th.

Mt. Vernon Police say the investigation against Prusz began at the end of December when an 11-year-old girl came forward about the alleged sexual acts.  Police believe the girl was the only alleged victim but there had been multiple incidents that occurred between April 2020 and September 2021.

Prusz had lived in Mt. Vernon before moving to Centralia recently.

Mt. Vernon Police had turned the case over to the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s office about two weeks ago, with the arrest warrant being issued on Friday of last week.
