Illinois State Police are investigating an early Saturday morning shooting on eastbound Interstate 74 in Champaign.
The driver of a vehicle crashed into the center median wall after being struck by gunfire from an unknown suspect vehicle traveling in the same direction. The 31-year-old male from Champaign was taken to an area hospital for injuries sustained from the gunfire. A 26-year-old female passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
Eastbound lanes of I-74 were closed for about four hours for investigation. State Police say the events surrounding the shooting remain under investigation and no further information is being released at the present time.
