New legislation aims to improve projections for health insurance consumers in Illinois.
State Department of Insurance Director Dana Popish Severinghaus says they helped put the bill together. She says it increases the number of in-network providers available per patient and requires insurers to keep certain information up to date.
“So that means providers would have to say if they are taking new patients or not. The bill would allow us to set strict wait times so if it takes too long to see a provider the insurer will have to pay for the out of network provider at an in network rate.”
The measure would also let the department inform the public that an insurer is being investigated. Details would still be confidential until the case is finalized.
Supporters hope to get it passed during the spring session.
