Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says a property tax scam is being run on county residents.
Fox says some residents have been called by an individual posting as either county office staff or a property tax buyer and asking the property owner to pay property taxes or they will lose their property.
Fox reports the public needs to know that the county offices will never call them asking for money for property taxes. All information from the county comes in the mail and most often is certified mail showing whom it came from.
Fox says they have heard some have already been scammed and have paid money to these individuals.
Fox says if you have been a victim of the scam you should contact your local enforcement agency.
