2023 03/25 – Richard Hames

Richard Hames, 64, of Alma passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, at his home.

He was born on March 18, 1959, the son of Frank and Margerie Elizabeth (Thomason) Hames in Decatur. He married the love of his life, Jeannie Hissong on April 3, 1981, in Brownstown and she survives in Alma.

Along with his devoted wife of 41 years, Jeannie Hames, survivors that will remember Richard as a protective family man include, his children, Rick Cripe of Vandalia, Morse Hames and wife Emily of St. Elmo, and Rio Hames of Alma; grandchildren, Anthony, Kaitlin, Andi, Joesie, Abrianna, and Keegan; great-grandchildren, Jayce, and Stephan; brother, Bill Hames and wife Charlotte of St. Peter; sisters, Carol Evans and husband Roy of St. Elmo, Kathy Green and Andy Finn of Centralia, Cristy Carlock and Max Yokley of Brownstown; mother-in-law, Alberta Clymer of St. Elmo; brothers-in-law, Keith Little and wife Debbie of Marion, Ray Hissong and wife Gloria of Edgewood, and Michael Hissong and wife Becky of Brownstown; and sisters-in-law, Carol Johnson of Kentucky, and Cassandra Clymer of Vandalia.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter Tasha Hames.

Richard worked for Marion County Animal Control for several years and was an asset to the county. He was a member of NRA and IFOR. Richard was active in the Fayette County Coon Hunter’s Club and Okaw Valley Muzzleloaders Club. He was a true outdoorsman, who enjoyed watching his coon dogs work. He always had a furry best friend close by his side, raising, bullies, rat terriers, basset hounds, and coon dogs. Richard was a good man and well respected. He worked hard, played harder, and loved his family dearly. Richard will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka with Paster Sam Hester officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to a visitation time to offer condolences to the family from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday in Patoka. Memorials may be made in Richard’s honor to the Family’s Wishes.
