The Marion County Farm Bureau’s free agriculture day breakfast drew 230 people on Tuesday.
Farm Bureau Manager Brad Conant was pleased with the turnout considering the rainy weather. Numbers are up from last year when a drive through event had to be held due to COVID-19.
“Of course everybody loves a free breakfast and the point of the day is to just celebrate agriculture and National Ag Day and Ag Week is a great time to do that. Good to celebrate affordability of food in America, although it’s a little higher this year, it’s still a good buy. And also a thank you to the farmers who produce the food as well. Great event, good volunteers and we are really happy with the turnout.”
And Marion County Farm Bureau President Steve Brummel says they are entering the new growing season optimistically.
“Financially we are going all right but it’s what going on at the end of the season. If prices stay high and we have good yields, even with higher inputs things will be alright. If we go the other way it could go the other way and start affecting things. We are coming off the past 2 good years and starting the third year at decent prices.”
Brummel says the current war between Russia and Ukraine will most likely serve to support higher prices due to neither country expected to provide their normal exports.
